Dead Battery Potential Causes (Info Compiled By Bridgestone)

A simple user error is often the source of a dead automobile battery. A device may have been left charging in the accessory power outlet, an overhead light may have been left on by accident  or too much of the car's power accessory power was applied when only driving a short distance. That indicates a lot of the battery's power was applied when the car was started, but the alternator, which recharges the battery, didn't have enough time to fully charge it.
Another reason for a dead automobile battery is old age. The majority of automotive batteries are multi-cell lead-acid batteries. Each cell contains a solution sulfuric acid and lead that is diluted.  Sulfation is a natural process that occurs when your vehicle's battery gets older. Sulfation occurs when sulfate crystals accumulate  on the negative plates of your car's battery, reducing the battery's ability to transmit power to your vehicle and preventing it from starting. This could be the case if your car's battery is between 2 and 5 years old, and if it could be the time to replace it.
At times there may not have been any way the user contributed to the dead battery---it may simply be an issue with the automobile itself. If a dead battery is a repeat occurrence for you and your battery or vehicle is new, it would be a logical move to take the car into an auto body shop, and have the car inspected by a mechanic for an internal defect.
Another potential issue might not be with the battery itself but with the charging system of the car. A way to spot that this is a likely root of the problem is that you see the battery warning icon pop up while your actually driving. You would want your terminals, serpentine belt, alternator, and battery cable checked out to see if they are all functioning correctly.

And lastly, a dead battery could be caused by the battery terminals being corroded. The terminals connect the battery to the rest of the charging system. White, ashy looking deposits, accumulate between the battery cables and terminal posts, which can lead to a decrease in the power of the vehicle. A wire brush and baking soda can remove the corrosion, but if the corrosion keeps reappearing, this might require battery cables, terminals, or the battery to be replaced.
