History of the Car Tire (Info Source)

You probably are the expression reinvent the wheel but when exactly was the wheel invented? The answer is around 3500 BC and was initially just A simple curved piece of wood. As for tires they date back pretty far too, as far back of the ancient Mesopotamians who used leather for their tires.

As for rubber tires and cars, in 1888 Benz paired the very first gasoline car with metal tires coated with rubber that was filled with air. This was called a pneumatic tire. The tread tire was later invented in 1905 and it basically helped to protect the inner part of the tire from rubbing up against the road.

In the 1920s tire material production started to pick up and then in 1931 the DuPont family was able to create  a synthetic rubber that allowed A lot more tires to be produced. This That’s why it’s known as a big shifting point in the history of car tires.

Besides tire manufacturing becoming easier, tire manufactures also of course had goals to help aid in customer needs such as in 1947 when tubeless tires were invented to help aid with the massive prices of gas as they reduced the weight of cars thereby reducing the amount of gas it would take for a car to travel a certain distance. Another cool invention was in 1934 in Finland when winter tires were invented to handle stormy weather. The company who invented them is called Nokian. The radial tire was invented in the 50s and they also helped save on fuel as well as providing good stability and support for cars at faster speeds.

Lastly, one of the most interesting tire inventions was in 1979 when the run – flat tire was created and it allowed cars to continue driving with a flat up to 50 miles, you saw that right, 50 miles at 50 MPH?? Whoa??? Thats not something that a lot of cards have the ability to do even today!
