Edwin Drake delved into a crude oil well at Titusville, Pennsylvania, in 1859 with the intention of utilizing kerosene to make lighter fluid. This began to change in 1892, when gasoline was identified as a reliable source of motor fuel. Today, practically every light-duty car in the country runs on gasoline.
